What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs Duke
When: 10/7/2006
Time: 5:00pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar & Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Nice to be back in Bryant-Denny after a couple tough ones……and
nice to have a couple “easy” ones following up afore mentioned
tough ones…..
And as “Midnight Madness” has yet to occur, we can be rest
assured of not facing the mighty Coach K…….smart guys playing
football at Vandy can be worrisome, but Duke doesn’t use their
brainiacs for football…….case in point goofy Duke starting QB
thrown out of school during Spring Practice for
plagiarism……sheesh, not fair, Tennessee would have just assigned
a tutor to write that paper for him (and then expelled the tutor for
plagiarism), and Auburn would have just let him skip class altogether :)
Heh, anyway…..
Basketball, lacrosse, and soccer……that is, ranking the Duke
sports in order…not sure where football lies, but guessing a couple of
water sports would probably take precedence…….and soccer
challenging for the #2 spot after the Lacrosse team’s unfortunate
“incident” with strippers last year…...(30 college
guys + 2 strippers + booze) -
bouncer = not a good idea.......order of operations, wouldn't
want to question the integrity of the math :)
So you’re asking what my point is, fair enough…….Duke
football <interesting stat> has only managed 13 total points through
four games this year…..yes, I said total……all 13
were against Wake Forest, another school we won’t hear much about
until next March….
Game’s on PPV, so watch Bama blow out the Blue Devils for
free….….kinda’ like “yer momma” jokes, never
gets old watching Bama blow out anybody…...Lazy Dog…..

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs Piggies
When: 9/23/2006
Time: 1:30pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar & Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
oy.....where'd the Summer go?......burrrrrr, ick.......cold natured I am,
meaning I'm typically cold in general, or warm natured meaning I like being
warm........?????wait, just confused even myself, bad start.........life is
about compromise I suppose, beats being eaten alive by mosquitoes (can't
recall the last time I was "bit")........we're putting on jackets;
Southerners just now giving up their swamp coolers, iced tea, and the
infamous "shade tree", but OFF! and whatever that smelly crap Mary
Kay sells still needed for another month or so....
Anyway, nice to see Bama scoring points (3-0's nice too), even if they
were given up by the proverbial "creampuff", but points are points
none the less.....I imagine the Hogs in Fayetteville will be
tougher........not to worry though, FedExed a package of bagged spinach to
piggie running back Darren McFadden Tuesday......just hope he gets it in time
for Friday night's dinner.....left a card: "Beat Bama for me!!"
signed, Olive Oil.......chow down, Darren.....
And as Kelly mentioned, piggie fans will apparently be lurking in the
shadows.......visiting an opposing team's home bar, college football's
version of "Infidels".......analogy used lightheartedly, of course,
no way am I comparing college football to Jihad :) .......thinking of the
Ozarks however, can't help but draw comparisons to the isolated Appalachians
of West Virginia......they start doing the Dueling Banjos thing, every man
for himself I'm running.......come back Sunday and settle my tab....
Lazy Dog.....checking banjos at the door......Vegas thinks we'll lose by
2; line subject to change however, depending on afore mentioned care package
:) .....see ya'll Saturday....

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs Louisiana-Monroe
When: 9/16/2006
Time: 5:00pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar & Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Ugly wins, probably not how Bama hoped to start off, but I'd take 11 more
just like 'em :), could be worse, just ask......<sigh>, nevermind, beat
that dead horse long enough....and lucky for them, depending on this week,
Broncos (pun intended) could become my new proverbial "whipping
boy".......unless of course pre-season media darling Auburn loses to LSU
(crossing fingers), then the gloves come off.....
True, TD's are coming few and far between.......Fumbles, sandy field,
Darby put on "too much weight", "Fahr thuh offensiv
codenater!!!", contracts with "Big Corporations", or some Tom
Cruise Scientology voodoo........hard to know for sure, could be one of many
things. And by the way, an ironic twist for the ages, Dave Rader (afore
mentioned "offensiv codenater") was awarded with a raise
today.........productivity way down, takes some cahones to walk into your
boss' office and ask for a raise......props to Big Dave I suppose....
Anyway.....the ball gets moved around pretty well "between the
20's". And can't complain about 2-0 (1-0 SEC) albeit Bama does seem
allergic to scoring points.......maybe Louisiana-Monroe will be more
accommodating.......Vegas thinks they will; likes us by 24...
Again, PPV game here out West, but watch it for free at the Lazy
Dog......see ya'll Saturday...

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs Vandy
When: 9/9/2006
Time: 1:30pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar & Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Yeah, ok, somewhat
worrisome Bama only won by 8…….but then CU loses to Div 1-AA
Montana State, so there you go...…and after last week’s
“Boulder bashing”, some of you may think I’m a CU
hater……I’m not, seriously, but they just make it too
easy……heh, just kiddin’, can't tell much from the first
game anyway..….
Admittedly, Juwan Simpson
starting last Saturday had more than a few of us scratching our
heads...…however, B'ham news reported today Simpson actually performed
many hours of community service this Summer, above and beyond whatever was
handed to him by the Court (additional service set up by UA coaching
staff)...…even though Shula has stated many times discipline matters
are kept "in house", the info was undoubtedly leaked to get certain
media types off his back.…..some folks just never will be happy, or
desperately blow on flames that just want to die…..reminds me of
Politics…..
And publicity was not
wanted here, unlike certain "road rage" incidents that were
apparently going to Court after the two parties couldn't reach a plea
agreement.......then breaking news late yesterday, deal was reached,
including $26 to fix the other dude's license plate bracket.......I
won’t mention names, ahem, Jake Plummer……I really hope $26
wasn't the "sticking point".......that's comparable to me pulling
out a calculator at ‘Big Lots’, then demanding to talk with the
manager about a disagreement over 3 cents……hey, it’s the
principle of the matter…..
heh, anyway….
Surprising everyone, DJ
Hall was the one suspended (and no one knows why; another "in
house" matter), but will be back this week.....gave Keith Brown an
opportunity to step up, which he did in a big way, and the good news is Hall
is "supposed" to be better....
Vandy got roughed up a
bit by Michigan last week, but like I said, you can't tell much from the 1st
game......Vegas likes Bama by 16..…..game's on FSN South, so
pretty much PPV here out West......but Lazy Dog’s got it for
free…
See ya'll Saturday....

Aloha Denver….….been
a while…….
What: Bama vs Hawaii
When: 9/2/2006
Time: 5:00 pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
The beginning of Football
season’s sort of bitter sweet I suppose……reminded
we’ll have to put away the shorts soon, where did the Summer go, blah,
blah, but football’s still cool (no pun intended) and we can quit
passing time talking about goofies such as Gary Barnett, Ward Churchill, and
John Mark Carr……..er, sorry, John Carr, no longer
‘infamous’, so not allowed to use the middle name anymore, but
yet another black eye for Boulder…….and set aside for a moment
whatever freak show was going on inside that guy’s head, there IS
something very creepy about little 45 year old dudes that still only weigh
110 lbs and have big huge noggins....I mean, seriously, the guy looks like a
bobblehead doll……
heh, and while making fun of
shenanigans in Boulder
is always popular (I apologize in advance if I’ve offended any
Boulderites)……..on with some Bama talk……
Hawaii boasts running
backs of 248, 351, and 240 lbs respectively, and while admittedly on paper
there is something very frightening about a 351 lb Samoan carrying the ball
(especially in nothing but a grass skirt…..oy, I apologize for that as
well), I doubt these guys are exactly fleet afoot……..and
there’s a big difference between sipping Mai Tai’s on the beach
and running away from speedy SEC linebackers in the stifling sauna that is
the Deep South…
Ahhh, speedy linebackers,
brings me to my next point…….Jury’s still out on the Juwan
Simpson suspension…….and yes, getting caught with a doobie in your
ash tray and a stolen gun under your seat is typically frowned
upon…….however, we find out later he was passing drug tests left
and right and the Northport cop Juwan initially checked his new gun with
needs to work on his 10-Key skills……so, not so bad. Shula remains
mute on the issue; I guess we’ll know when the defense trots out around
5:07pm Saturday night…..
Either way, doesn't
matter, speaks volumes when Hawaii’s
QB will be icing his arm from overuse by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Yeah, they throw it around…..a lot……and when the guy gets
benched early in the 4th for the backup, try not and think it was
because he was stinking it up, but more a ‘relief pitcher’ sort
of situation……Hawaii's allowed to bring 60 total players on road
games, and I'm guessing around 20 of them are wide-receivers.....
Game’s on PPV, but
you can watch if for free at the Lazy Dog……See ya’ll
Saturday…..

SEC PICNIC AUG 20th WASHINGTON PARK
Hello Roll Tiders,
The SEC Picnic is being held at Washington
Park on Sunday August
20th from 12-5. It will be located at site #3. Click HERE for a map of the picnic site location.
Catering will be provided by Brother BBQ and we are going with "the
works" 3 meat menu option with the "extras" of drinks.
For the full menu see http://www.brothers-bbq.com/pdf/brosbbq_cmenu_bw.pdf
We are trying to find a vegetarian option as well. Kids should be able
to eat for free. 2 Kegs will be provided by Ryan from the Kentucky camp.
There will also be a tug of war competition in which the winning school will
receive a trophy designed by none other than I :)
Couple of things.
There is a vegetarian option that is going to be offered at the
picnic. Tofu and 3 side dishes. So let me know before hand if you will want
that option. Also, the picnic site has
moved from site 1 to site 3. I have
attached a map detailing the location in Washington Park. Don't forget that I need to know by Aug.
14th if you are coming and how many are in your party. The cost again is $15.00.
LSU is also going to bring the proverbial pinata.
The cost per adult is $15.00.
I need to know by AUGUST 14th how many of you will be attending.
I hope that everyone will try to attend. It's going to be a lot of fun
and will be a great pep rally before football season starts. Please let me
know if you have any questions. I can be reached by email here, at work
kelli.douglas@envestnet.com,
and by phone 303-520-0494.

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs Texas Tech
When: 1/2/2006
Time: 9:00am mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Good news, a first since
I've lived out West watching a Bama team other than basketball play in
January, and a first in referencing such.........the bad news, well, 9
am......eh, it's Monday, so just imagine going to work, coffee, etc, etc,
just don't wear a suit, as in reality you're going to a bar......and no
pajamas for those still in the bed at 8:55.......if you don't get the day
off, call in sick......well, everyone but those employees of the Lazy Dog of
course :)
Which brings me to my
next point, yes, the Lazy Dog is opening up special just for us.......being a
Bama fan gets you privileges. The Bar will be ready to go (when was the last
time you boozed it up on a Monday morning?), with the kitchen opening up
sometime later during the game......10:00 I think.
Anyway....
The Cotton Bowl liked the
thought of a great pass offense vs a great pass defense.......then Simeon
Castille decided he didn't need to go to class anymore.......but Tech lost a
couple receivers that didn't think they needed to go to class
either.......funny thing this "college", there's always a few guys
that wonder what all those other buildings are used for....
However, Bowl games are a
way of rewarding the players that do attend class; they're already in Dallas. Some good extra
practice for the younger guys, but for those such as DeMeco
Ryans......looking forward to a big payday soon as a top 10 NFL Draft
pick.......probably more concerned with sporting the cowboy hat atop some
mechanical bull in Ft. Worth.....
Speaking of
DeMeco.......and recruiting for that matter.....just remember Bama was the
only major D-1 program to recruit DeMeco. Now all the NFL teams are drooling.
And then there was Fat Albert Means.......remember him? All the D-1
schools wanted this guy, though now the NFL just laughs while one school paid
(pun intended) dearly......you just never know how these guys are going to
react once they leave high school, and Mama. DeMeco graduated with something
like a 3.8 in Marketing........and, well, Fat Albert's still wondering what
all those other buildings are used for.....
See ya'll
Satur.....er.....Monday.....

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs that school
down the road
When: 11/19/2005
Time: 1:30 mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Some were stunned, flying
projectiles came from others........personally I coped with a combination of avoiding
afore mentioned projectiles, denial, dismissive jokes, and, well,
beer......and the fact we lost to a very good team......but as the Bama
nation slowly emerges from suicide watch, they realize there is a game yet to
go........vs that school down the road....
They don't call it the most
intense rivalry in the country for nothing......jealousy and resentment
infect Opelika like a cancer, as they might as well be that rich man's
illegitimate love child that grew up in the trailer park......the one that
deserved everything but got nothing......the one that did all he could to get
recognition by his father (and just for argument's sake, we'll call this man
CBS), only to be ignored in favor of his older half brother on 7 different
occasions in just the last couple of months......elated in learning his
father, CBS, would finally come see him this weekend......for the first time
this year......later dejected in knowing dad just wanted to see his half
brother for the 8th time......but who could blame CBS? His favorite son has
been much more successful over the years.....
And so goes the story of
little half brother.......motivating himself with silly catch phrases such as
“AttitUde” and “AUdacity”…….with every
success tossing toilet paper into trees at a vaguely known place called
Toomer's Corner......Big brother hasn't done that sort of thing since high
school......then with an urgent look on his face, little brother says
"oops" while frantically grabbing what he's just tossed and racing
for the nearest outhouse.....realizing he just drank water from a hose in the
middle of a cow pasture......mooooooo...…cursing the whole way because
he’ll miss the parade celebrating a National Championship he
didn’t win….
Either way, Vegas thinks
little brother will win this battle…..with a line bigger than Terry
Bowden’s shoe size (7 points), odds makers apparently listening to Pat
Dye, as he begins every sentence now days with so and so “ain’t
man enough”….
If Bama pulls it out, 10
wins probably gets us a BCS bid to the Fiesta Bowl vs Notre Dame...
See ya’ll
Saturday…...

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs LSU
When: 11/12/2005
Time: 1:30pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Biggest game thus far this
year.
Bryant-Denny may more
resemble a giant alcoholics anonymous meeting than a football stadium this
weekend, given 2 truths.....as never has a group shown a more propensity to
drink than Irish people and LSU fans......and look out for any LSU fans named
O'Brien......double-whammy...
Will be 7 out of 10 on
CBS......and counting (guessing they'll grab us in the Iron Bowl,
too)......oh, and ESPN Gameday's finally showing up, but don't be surprised
if both the 'talking heads' predict us to lose. In fact, Vegas has Bama an
underdog at home.....
Doesn't matter we're 9-0,
doesn't matter our opponent lost to a Tennessee team imploding before our
very eyes, or rode 5 missed Auburn field goals to barely beat them in OT, in
Baton Rouge.....doesn't matter LSU has a weak secondary, or got lit up by Ken
Irons (Barn RB) for over 200 yards (Ken Darby, not Irons, leads the SEC in
rushing).......doesn't matter we've given up only 19 points, total, in our last 5 games
combined.....total......
Awesome defense playing with
heart, mistake-free offense (Croyle's thrown only 1 pick in his last 7
games), no respect from the media......sound familiar?
But like I said it doesn't
matter......defense isn't exciting (Vince Young), defense it isn't flashy (Reggie
Bush).....the people must have points!!
Whatever.......we can't lose
if they don't score.....Bama wins, and the Barn loses to Georgia, book your tickets to Atlanta because we
clinch.....
See ya'll
Saturday.......party like it's 1992......

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs Miss. State
When: 11/5/2005
Time: 1:30pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Heh, the "Mile High
City" brings new meaning, as apparently marijuana is legal in Denver
now.......and while the Hippies rejoice and smoke themselves into oblivion,
marijuana remains illegal on the State and Federal level.......State
Troopers tossing the shotguns in favor of chips and crackers, to satisfy the
endless cases of "munchies" that will inevitably occur in the back
seats of their patrol cars over the next few weeks.......
Anyway…
Yet again, Bama's on
CBS.......that's 6 out of 9 games......and when you count the Southern Miss
game on ESPN, that's 7 out of 9 games on national TV.......someone must like
us :) .......that's a lot more exposure than Southern Cal, Texas, and
Virginia Tech have gotten....
I wish I could say the media
loves the fact we're about to go 3-0 vs Mississippi teams, but I can't; they
could care less......it’s all about Sylvester Croom. And even though we
all love and respect Sylvester, this is a story quickly becoming
old.......magnified by the fact Mike Shula uttered "uhh" a few
times at his initial press conference while Croom was very well spoken, the
media would love nothing better than to catch Bama in yet another
mistake.......my intuition, the media's thinking is "there's still a
chance"; Bama's favored by 17 on the road.......this is not a game CBS
would normally televise.....
I guess my point is CBS TV
crews certainly aren’t headed to Starkville for the
“nightlife”, nor the countless stirring renditions of “Who
let the Dogs Out” for that matter (you thought Rocky Top was annoying);
local folks still waiting on that 4-lane, which would lead to at least one
'fillin' station' boldly staying open 24 hours.......but until then, the lone
stoplight is still functioning, which is very promising news.....
In closing, what would Mississippi State weekend be without bashing
Rafael Palmeiro? Viagra spokesman and M$U’s favorite
son……well, no longer Viagra spokesman, since 1) he lied to
Congress, and 2) in an ironic twist for the ages, he probably no longer uses
the product……I’m guessing not using steroids is just as
effective as the little blue pill…..just a guess….
See ya'll Saturday….

What's up Denver....
What: Homecoming
When: 10/29/2005
Time: 1:00pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Now I know how my buddy and I
got our tickets so cheap.......right smack dab in the middle of the Tennessee
section......we were like a little crimson zit or something....
Funny story, this little 12
year old girl sitting behind us (wearing orange of course) leans up and says
in the classic hillbilly accent......."Ya' know we gonna' be talkin'
$%!# to ya'll the whole game"......seriously, she was like 12 years
old......and the middle-aged man kinda' behind us and to the right, no doubt
hooked on phonics; explains why he kept saying the same thing over and
over......."Ded gummit! That ain't Tennessee Football!!.....and Goofy
right next to me, downed a bottle of Jack before the game even started;
coulda' lit his breath on fire......made us sing "Happy Birthday"
to his mother.....twice......didn't have a choice, don't want to get in to
it.....
Anyway, in the end it was
worth it......lost in the middle of a sea of orange, my friend and I lost our
voices (just as I had hoped) screaming 'Rammer Jammer' as the Tennessee
faithful scrambled to escape unnoticed from Bryant-Denny.....
Ahhhh, Homecoming......good
thing for the other festivities, as it doesn’t do much for
football......unless you like blowouts, of course. This weekend's climax will
probably occur sometime during the bonfire Friday night......I just can't
imagine the mighty Aggies from Utah State being very competitive (they
weren't last year, handled them easily 48-17)......lose and we should just
hang 'em up for the year....
Short and to the point
for a change :)
See ya'll
Saturday......game's on PPV, but watch it for free at the Lazy Dog.....

What's up Denver...
What: Bama vs Tennessee
When: 10/22/2005
Time: 1:30pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Happy Halloween!!
It is Halloween, is it not?
The Great Pumpkin’s coming to town.....eh, heh.....but Charlie Brown
wants no part of this big fat pumpkin.........the Tuscaloosa Krispy Kreme
however bringing in their 'seasonal' shifts....
As a matter of fact, the big
fat pumpkin wants no part of Tuscaloosa......I believe will be his first trip
to the great State of Alabama, well, since admitting turning into the big fat
version of Sherlock Holmes in an effort to bring Alabama down......but the
newest Sherlock has the dirtiest of hands, and everyone knows it......which
is why his "self-righteous" attitude has a few million people
wanting to puke.....
And back at the Knoxville
Pen, or better known these days (in my best Sean Connery impersonation)
as....."The Rock".......he becomes Warden
Fulmer.......something like 20 players, 20 players, have had 'run-ins'
with the law in just the last few months (I'm not
joking)......assault, gun charges, drugs, and disturbing the peace lead the
way.......and they wonder why the rest of the SEC calls them UThug.......the
only good news about them being inside Bryant-Denny??? At least you have
peace of mind, albeit only 4 hours, they're not out in the parking lot
jacking your car.....
And the most redeeming
quality of thugs......most of them are stupid......Police records alone prove
UT's drowning in them......I'd love to have access to their grades, but as
ESPN and Linda Bensel-Myers will tell you......it's too late, they've already
been changed.....
Heh, I don't like
them.......can you tell?
Anyway, Tennessee is no
stranger to losing significant players either; maybe their best defensive
player dislocated his hip during the Georgia game......Jason Allen (corner),
though we don't know how their defense will adjust; they haven't played a
game in two weeks.......it's almost understood now that the SEC will grant
Tennessee a bye week before the Alabama game every year....
Expect to see their talented
back-up QB Eric Ainge, as Rick Clausen will most certainly turn into a
proverbial 'deer in the headlights' against our fast defense......UT's
offense has done jack squat all year, and not the weekend to turn it around,
on the road, against the best D they've seen thus far....
Unfortunately I won't be
joining everyone at the Lazy Dog.....since graduating (2000), I've been back
every year for a game, yet haven't seen Bama win one game in person......not
one. And yes, I was there for the infamous "4th and 19"......this
time Vegas favors us by 3......if, well I won't say it, I'm not sure I can
return to Tuscaloosa
:)
Let's hope the $125 or
whatever I'm spending on a ticket is worth it......to me, losing my voice
screaming 'Rammer Jammer' at Phat Phil Fulmer would be worth it......however
much the price of donuts gets jacked up due to the laws of 'Supply and
Demand' :)
Oh, and I almost forgot,
what would Tennessee
week be without dusting off the ole' pic of Lu Lu and Junior……see
attached, enjoy!!
Look for me on the Lazy
Dog's TV's...…..see attached….

What's up Denver...
What: Bama vs Ole Siss
When: 10/15/2005
Time: 10:00am mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Yeah, that's 10:00 am......on
CBS 3 weeks in a row, though....guess they like us....
Hope everyone got rested up
and healthy during the bye week.......I hear Ryan Thompson pulled a hammy
jumping up out of his chair on Prothro's 87 yrd TD catch, and Ben Fanning tweaked an ankle from an unfortunate
incident with a table leg on the ensuing interception.......both should be
good to go this week.... :)
Urban Meyer, welcome to the
SEC.....
And ya'll know me......I'll
take any opportunity to bash coaches, especially former cowardly Bama
coaches......ahhhhhh, Fran.......shaking my head in disbelief. Gave up 500+
total yards to Texas State......yeah, State.......took overtime to beat Baylor?......Absolutely JACKED by our friends from Boulder.....a
lot of his players still play for Bama,
including certain valuable Seniors.....Seniors that would love nothing better
than to stick it to him now. Unfortunately their only chance would be in a
Bowl game.....a chance they won't get because, well, Fran and A&M
suck......but neither here nor there, A&M is stuck with him
now......somewhere, R.C. Slocum is smiling, and somewhere Fran is thinking he
made a mistake......
Meanwhile, www.FranUnderFire.com .....eh, heh, and so it
begins.......Kim Franchione, upon stepping off the plane in College Station, "We're
home"....…heh…..
Tyrone Prothro.......losing
him hurts bad; bar none, the most exciting player in the SEC. However, if
there could ever be a silver lining (other than he's expected to make a full
recovery and back next year), the balls thrown to him will now go to DJ Hall,
Keith Brown, and Matt Cadell........that ain't necessarily a bad thing.......as a friend of mine
put it over the phone, "these guys are no slouches"....
Regardless, the best QB in
the SEC is still healthy....and the SEC's leading rusher is still healthy....
Blah, here we go again with
"lookin' ahead"......Tennessee comes calling in 2 weeks.....but
first a road trip to Oxford; we're favored, on the road by 12......and maybe
not a bad spread; we struggled with Arkansas "looking ahead" to
Florida.......just win......and nobody else gets hurt......I'll be happy....
As far as a preview goes,
not a whole lot to say......we've already beaten the best team in
Mississippi......the Sly Croom vs Mike Shula debate has been put to
rest......just ask Jeff Bower, er, Urban Meyer for that matter......
See ya'll Saturday....well,
tomorrow, as this was late.....sorry.....

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs Gators
When: 10/1/2005
Time: 1:30pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Heh, already October.....as
if this morning was any indication......some would argue "it's football
weather".....whatever, I enjoyed wearing shorts......<sigh>, if
only I could hibernate.....
Bama up to #15 in the AP
Poll this week......#16 in Coach's....
Like I said, Bama can't get
caught lookin' ahead to Florida........I think it happened, though luckily
got focused near the end; nevertheless, a win's a win.......Houston Nutt's a
goober; however much the TV crew would have you believe otherwise (anyone
else notice the Nutt love fest?)........hey, DJ Hall was standing there
uncovered on the clinching touchdown immediately after an Arkansas
time-out.....the whole point of taking time-outs is to get your @#!$
organized......looking forward to when Nutt's not considered a
"great" coach......he's not......he's a goober....
As Bama was 2-0 in their
last two vs Steve Spurrier (not counting South Carolina), so goes Florida, as
Bama never had the pleasure of facing Ron Zook, Spurrier's infamous
successor. Maybe it was the legendary website fireronzook.com that finally
did him in........or the unfortunate incident at the Pi Kappa Phi
House.......or just the fact he lost as many home games in 2 years as
Spurrier lost in 12.......whatever led to his ultimate demise, he was
replaced by a better Coach while leaving the Gators loaded with talent, thus
explaining why we're 3 point underdogs at home this Saturday....
There's some National hype
around this game; been a while since "hype" and a major Alabama
sport other than Basketball was mentioned in the same sentence.......first
4-0 start since, well, I can't remember (I'd rather not look it up). Bottom
line, only one game this weekend featuring two top 15 undefeated teams (some
of you thinking USC / ASU, but ASU already lost)......
Look, to be serious a
moment, we've been very lucky thus far with injuries (yeah, yeah, knock on
wood, I know), as our depth.....to put it kindly.....is thin. The team as a
whole is healthy right now (a couple guys gimpy but no big deal).....if ever
there was a time for a big win, this is it.
An interesting
stat……Florida’s offense gives up more sacks than any team
in the SEC, while Bama’s defense is best in the SEC at sacking
quarterbacks……however in the interest of not sounding too
confident, I’m gonna’ stop just short of forecasting a long day
for Chris Leake…….for now….
Bama has never beaten a top 5 team in Bryant-Denny……there’s
a first time for everything. See ya’ll Saturday…..

What's up Denver....
What: Bama vs Hogs
When: 9/24/2005
Time: 10:30am mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Hey Cocks, hey Cocks, we
just beat the.......<sigh>, never mind.....
So much for those Vegas odds
makers......Bama favored by 2.....they were off by, well, a lot.....and
Spurrier still just as animated in his old age (as Stormin' Normin' would
agree), ripping off the visor in anger and frustration on several
occasions......just like old times....
Big story this
week.....Ghasp!! Spurrier out-coached by Mike Shula!!.....but then again,
Spurrier was out-coached by Mike Dubose (twice in one year, don't get me
started on that again). Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not downplaying Shula's
coaching Saturday (it was fantastic), but I just don't think it matters; I
mean, kinda' like when a baseball player gets in a hitting slump (or gets off
the Juice), it gets in his head......I think Bama's in Spurrier's
head.....0-3 in his last 3 tries.....
Bottom line, that was an
impressive win.....on the road.....against a team that almost beat top 10 Georgia, in Athens, the week before....
Anyway, moving on....
Bama nemesis Matt
Jones.......affectionately known among Native Americans as "Runs With
the Deer".......has finally graduated (or just out of eligibility; I
can't verify)......either way, thank God.....
Matt, er...."Runs With
the Deer" took his 4.3 speed, and apparently the rest of Arkansas' football talent as a whole......if their loss
to Vandy, at home, wasn't enough.......did anyone catch that Southern Cal score last
weekend? 70-17......had to confirm with two websites to make sure.....
And yet Arkansas is on the
road again.......a team in chaos faces a team seemingly hitting on all
cylinders; could get ugly, or maybe not......if Bama's focused on Arkansas,
this game will be over early......if Bama gets caught looking ahead to
Florida next week, well, that just can't happen......one game at a time....
It seems about once a year
we get these 10:30am mst kick-offs.....set your alarms.....
Vegas says Bama's about a 2
touchdown favorite.....after last week's line, take it for what it's
worth....
See ya'll Satuday.....watch
the game for free, and get some dang good wings (wings not free) at the Lazy
Dog....

What's up Denver....
What: Bama / Gamecocks
When: 9/17/2005
Time: 1:30pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar & Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Only one announcement this
week, and it's actually more of a "heads up"......or an
"incoming!" if you will......either would fit, as someone (won't
mention names......hint: it wasn't me) invited the South Carolina alums to
watch the game with us......and I assume they would outnumber the lone
Southern Miss fan who showed up last week....only 'cause his wife made him,
but he did have the cahones to wear a bright yellow t-shirt that would make
Big Bird proud; props.....anyway, several are expected, and they somehow have
it in their minds they can win......well, after last week's tough loss to
Georgia, and the fact they have Steve Spurrier, I can understand their
optimism, but the definitive #'s show otherwise......more on that later; just
show up so we're not outnumbered, ok?
As far as last week's game
goes, some of you may be worried that the USM game 'seemed' close.......it
wasn't. We started off hot, then honestly, USM caught some lucky breaks in
the second quarter, from which they scored 21 pts in about 10 minutes (INT
for touchdown, then our kicking game......arrrrrgggghhh, our kicking game and
the whole 'field position' thing). Hey, but after which we score 20 pts unanswered
and win by 9.......if you look at just the stats, the game shouldn't have
been close.....the spread was 12, which we would have covered easily had not
the unfortunate fumble occurred inside their 5 yrd line near the end, and,
well, the afore mentioned kicking game......missed FG and extra
point.....there's 4 pts right there....
On a couple individuals,
Brodie Croyle quietly had one of the top 10 games in Bama history, as far as QB's
are concerned......330 yrds passing......apparently overshadowed by maybe the
best catch I've ever seen.....speaking of Tyrone Prothro, 279 yrds of total
offense; almost a Bama record.
Heh, oh yeah, about that
definitive #'s teaser from above....
Spurrier has lost his last
two games vs Bama.....specifically, Steve Spurrier actually had a losing
record vs Mike Dubose....1-2.....Spurrier is 0-2 in his last two games vs
Dubose, including losing two games......in one season.....to, you guessed it,
Mike Dubose. Mike Dubose, the pride of Opp, Alabama,
and nightmare to secretaries everywhere….
Yeah, I know, Bama's had 3
coaches since Mikey D was fired.......one of which never even saw the
field......however, none have the pleasure of facing Spurrier, as he was busy
fueling his huge ego in the NFL..….eventually fleeing back to College
with his tail between his legs….
Vegas favors Bama by 2.5
pts.....we'll see....first road game of the year.....
See ya'll Saturday....

What's up Denver....
What: Bama / Southern Miss
When: 9/10/2005
Time: 5:45pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
As usual, announcements
first….
Ruth Rohs of the
‘Mardi Gras Krewe de Colorado’ contacted me asking that I pass
this along……they’ll be hosting a fundraiser for the Katrina
disaster on Sept 15th. The LSU and Tulane alumni groups here in Denver will be well
represented at this event. For more info check out their website /
invitation…..see below….
www.mardigrascolorado.org/katrina
Ok, let's review what we
learned last week......Keith Brown is really fast, the ACN is a crappy
network when it comes to covering football games, and Brodie Croyle needs a haircut......admittedly
I'm not that far behind in the hair department, though I did locate my razor
recently and am using it every day which is a start......baby steps, but I
digress....
Anyway....
We won; defense was
dominating......only gave up 157 total yards, with most of those on MTSU's
lone touchdown drive in the 2nd quarter....
Win was pretty much a
non-event as far as the Media's concerned.....did make it up to #22 in the
Coach's Poll, however 3 teams skipped over us in the AP Poll so we remain
#26.....#26, the coveted top spot among "others receiving
votes".....
A couple teams that
did receive media attention.....
The Barn lost......bwaaaa, hah, ha, ha, ha, hah!!..........heh.....
Oh, and Dennis Franchione
made a mental error to lose his team a game they should have won, while
Franchione's two former teams won their opening games....eh, heh......seems a
couple of Bama's recently departed coaches are prone to mental errors; one on
the field, and one, well, off the field......hmmm......hey, Oklahoma lost
too, to afore mentioned previously Franchione coached TCU team, which brings
us full circle.....I knew I was trying to make a point amidst all that mess,
but succeeded in just blowing it up......for the majority of you scratching
your heads after above paragraph don't re-read it, just move along.....
Southern Miss actually opens
up against us......their scheduled 1st game vs Tulane was obviously
postponed. Since they haven't played yet, I don't have a whole lot to say. We
did beat them 27-3 last year......just about the entire defense that held
them to only 3 pts returns, and we played a 3rd string QB for that game
(Brodie got hurt 3 weeks prior). We're favored by 12......considering all of
that, we're at home, already have a game under our belt (USM doesn't),
and.....knock on wood.....no significant injuries thus far, we should be 2-0
headed to Columbia, South Carolina and Steve Spurrier's new team.....who by
the way is a 16 point dog (no pun intended) to Georgia this week.....
…..see ya'll Saturday....

What’s up Denver, it's been a
while......you guys miss me???
What: Bama vs MTSU
When: 9/3/2005
Time: 5:00pm mst
Where: Lazy Dog Bar &
Grill (I-25 and Colorado)
Sheesh......kinda' an awkward
week for football, especially in the SEC......don't really know how to cover
this, but I feel like I should say something......LSU, Tulane, and I think
Southern Miss have already postponed their games for obvious reasons.....I'm
sure we all know folks down there; I have family in Biloxi, Gulfport, and
Ocean Springs.....all bolted for higher ground on Sunday.....thankful for
that.....hoping all the rest of you have accounted for everyone you know....
Secondly, lemme' get somethin'
out of the way......congratulations are in order for Ryan Thompson; he and
his fiancé Mandy tied the knot this past Saturday. Most of you should know
Mandy (the blonde with the heavy Midwestern accent); she attended most of our
games last year, and the last two SEC picnics......for those of you that
didn't attend the picnic......shame, even though we did have the largest
group......again. Anyway, they're off on their honeymoon this week, will miss
the first game, but should be back for the Southern Miss game on the
10th......cheers.....
Heh, oh yeah....it's
Football season.
Brodie's back. I'm fairly
certain he's just about ripped, torn, and dislocated anything and everything.
Having all that repaired, and given the inexperience of our O-Line, here's to
crossing our fingers there's nothing left on that boy's body to break.....
Either way, it appears we've
got some depth at QB finally (John Parker Wilson's got talent and will back
him up; and Marc Guillon's back is all healed up). Therefore it appears we
won't be missing wide-open receivers in endzones to lose games this year....
Best kept secret in college
football, and you heard it here first........Bama's receiving Corps.......DJ
Hall, Keith Brown, Zeke Knight, Tyrone Prothro, Matt Cadell, Will Oakley
(redshirt last year), etc.....The Media doesn't know because they only look
at last year's stats. They don't recognize most of them were true freshmen,
and after Brodie went down, they spent the better part of last year watching
balls fly 10 feet over their heads......"go-go-gadget arms"
apparently against NCAA rules......
Speaking of numerous
injuries, running backs Ken Darby, Tim Castille, and Leron McLain are all
back and 100%. With a talented freshmen backing them up, Upchurch, we will be
fine. Unfortunately, I believe Aaron Johns was thrown off the team for not
making the grades.
Defense is our
strength.......most everyone returns from the #2 rated defense in the Country
last year. In all seriousness, Bama was the best, but because our offense
couldn't hang on to the ball for any length of time, our D was forced to
unusual amounts of time on the field which hurt their stats. All that
considered, our Secondary still remained #1 and they're all back, including
the back-ups.....
And there you go......as far
as this week's game goes, nothing really needs to be said. MTSU's a
creampuff; we’re favored by 22 pts.......we should win convincingly. If
we don’t, well….hmmm….
See ya'll Saturday....

Flat Tarr
(PEOPLE FROM THE SOUTH WILL UNDERSTAND THIS.)
There was this fellow from Tennessee
who had a flat tire. He
pulled off on the side of the road, jumped out of his car, walked
down the hillside and picked a bunch of wildflowers, and proceeded
to put one bouquet of the flowers in front of the car and one behind it.
Then he got back in the car to wait.
A passerby studied the scene as he drove by and was so curious
he turned around and went back. He asked the fellow what the
problem was. The man replied, "I have a flat tarr."
In response the passerby asked, "But what's with the flowers?
The man responded, "When you break down they tell you to put
flares in the front and flares in the back! I never did understand it
neither."
